Faculty Development Programs

Mechanical Department feels that Faculty development is the utmost requirement and understanding these needs, several Staff development activities are planned and designed throughout the Academic year to enhance teacher effectiveness at all levels of the educational continuum. Departmental objective of faculty development programs is to orient faculty members towards the skills relevant to their institutional setting and Faculty position, and to continue their vitality both now and in the future. This activity gives the faculties an ample opportunity to enhance & sharpen their skills for extensive research and precise acquaintance by exposing them to the simulated environment at the said programs. With these goals in mind the department has organized Faculty Development Programs on “Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering”, “Application of Fluid Dynamics in Mechanical Engineering”, etc.

FDP on Industrial Applications of Mechanical Engineering, Part – I

Faculty Development Program on Industrial Applications of Mechanical Engineering, Part – Iduring 18th – 22nd June, 2018 was conducted by a world-renowned company – Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T Power) for Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Faculties of Parul University. Around 18 faculties had participated in FDP. L&T Power Training Institute (PTI) planned, organized and delivered the content for this FDP especially for the Faculty Members of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering of Parul University. This Part 1 of FDP dealt with the Industrial Applications of Mechanical Engineering with a special focus on Thermal Power Plants. This FDP also included a session on “Train the Trainers-Teaching Skill Development”.
The key objectives behind this FDP are focusing upon the practicality involved in the Design, Selection of Equipment & Systems, Construction and Commissioning of a Thermal Power Plant and providing a knowledge sharing platform so as to Bridge Faculty Classroom Teaching with Practical Industrial Expertise.

The inaugural function began with a warm welcome by Mr. Rajen Pandya, Head – L&T Power Training Institute to all the faculty participants as well as other eminent guests present. After a brief introduction of all the faculties present Mr. B K Basu, VP and Head Corporate Centre and Technology, shared his views about the importance of Industry – Institute Interaction. Dr. Unnati Joshi – Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology graced the program by her presence and wished L&T as well as the participant all the success for the event. Prof. Manish Pandya – Principal (PIT) expressed his views about the importance of faculty development through such programs by professionals from companies such as L&T.

Various experts from L&T Power and L&T S&L had briefly discussed on layout of a coal-based power plant, Mechanical systems and equipment’s used in coal based thermal power plant, Analysis of thermodynamics, Heat Balance sheet, Industrial Heat Exchangers, HVAC, Water balance diagram, Pre-Water Treatment, DM plant, Industrial pumps, valve and piping systems, Air compressor and many more.

Dr. M. N. Patel, Honourable Vice Chancellor along with Dr. Unnati Joshi – Dean FET, Prof. Manish Pandya – Principal PIT of Parul University also graced the occasion in valedictory program. Participants were given certificates by Dr. M N Patel. All the participants were presented with jersey bearing a logo of L&T as a token of love and affection.

FDP on “Fundamentals Of Mechanical Engineering”

Mechanical Department of Parul University Limda, Waghodia conducted a 6 day Faculty Development Program on “Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering” and a one week Short Term Training Program on “Advances in Heat Transfer-2nd Level Course”. More than 50 participants appeared in the event, including the faculty members from different Engineering institutions under The University Campus.
Dr.AkhilMital (Ph D, IIT Delhi) was the speaker on the very first day. He delivered a talk on “Engineering Mathematics”. On the 2nd Day, Dr. Y.D.Patel (Ph D, S.P. University) delivered a talk on “Engineering Mechanics”. He enlightened the knowledge on Fundamentals of Convection, Natural and Free Convection. Dr. M. M. Gor(Ph D, IITRoorkee) from GECET V.V.Nagarwas invited to share his views on “Engineering Mechanics” He shared his perception & inculcates all the participants on the advancement in conduction on the 3rd day. On the 4th Day, Dr. Chaitanya Desai (Ph D, IIT Kanpur) delivered a talk on “Mechanics of Solid”. He shared basic concept of stress and covered type of stress and strain, elastic constants, type of loading, thermal stress etc. He continued the second session with combined loading and covered principle stress and strain, Shear force and bending moment diagram etc. He had given useful information related to strength of material.On the 5th Day, Prof.Ilyaskathadi(Ph D, IIT Delhi) delivered a talk on “Thermodynamics”. On the 6th Day, Dr. Mitesh shah (Ph D, IIT Delhi) delivered a talk on “Heat Transfer”.
The participants actively involved themselves during the sessions. Hence, overall FDP was exceptional.

Advances in Heat Transfer-2nd Level Course

Recently Mechanical Engineering Department organized a one week Short Term Training Program STTP on “Advances in Heat Transfer-2nd Level Course”. It was a continuation to a STTP organized previously on “Advances in Heat Transfer in Mechanical Engineering”. STTP was attended by more than 50 participants including the faculty members from different engineering colleges & Post Graduate Students from all over the Nation. Faculty Development Program was a perfect blend of theory sessions as well as hands on practical sessions in laboratory. Talk by Eminent Professor Dr. Atul Sharma from IIT, Bombay on “Advancement in Convection” enlightened the knowledge on Fundamentals of Convection, Natural and Free Convection. Dr. Atul Srivatava from IIT, Bombay shared his views on “Advancement in Conduction”. A series of lectures on Design of Heat Exchangers were also discussed and hands on Practice Session were conducted on Design of Heat Exchanger using HTRI Software.
