About Department

Department of Industrial Engineering is commenced from the academic year 2018-19 with the sanctioned intake of thirty students offering B.Tech. in Industrial Engineering as it is an allied branch of Mechanical Engineering which is in function since 2010. The department has state of art facility of workshop, Elements of Mechanical Engineering Lab, Material Science and Metallurgy Lab, Mechanical Measurement and Metrology Lab, Theory of Machines Lab, Work Study Lab, Automobile Engineering Lab and many more. In order to strengthen the learning, various student centred activities including technical seminars, technical workshops, expert talks, industrial visits are organized on regular basis. Department also has credit to have M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering programme since 2016. PG students work with faculties on realistic industrial problems to be more industrious to come out with practical solutions. Students have an opportunity to stretch technical potential by getting exposer to participate in state level, national level and international events under various leading student chapters of SAE, ASME, ISHRAE, IIW and IEI.

Industrial Engineering is indeed today’s need of various industrial sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, energy, and communications as it deals with resource planning and its effective utilization to improve productivity. It encompasses various dimensions including reliability engineering, lean production, agile manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain management, logistics management, project management, design of experiments and various optimization techniques applicable to determine the most effective way for an organization to utilize the basic factors of production –i.e. material, people, machines, information and energy to make a product or to provide a service.

The ideology behind Industrial Engineering helps to extract the maximum from the potential resources which should be executed only through scientific management and cost-effective techniques. Whereas most engineering disciplines apply skills to very specific areas, industrial engineering is applicable virtually in every industry. Toyota Production System (TPS) is one of the most adopted Industrial Engineering practices globally as a work culture.
