About Department

Department of Production Engineering is commenced in the year 2018 with the sanctioned intake of thirty students offering B. Tech. in Production Engineering as it is an allied branch of Mechanical Engineering which is in function since 2010. The department is well equipped with dedicated workshop with in-house facilities of foundry, welding, hot forming, conventional as well as unconventional machines and also basic facilities of various shops including carpentry, fitting, plumbing, sheet metal forming, soldering etc. Major associated lab facilities available to offer practical exposer to students include Material Science and Metallurgy Lab, Mechanical Measurement and Metrology Lab, Theory of Machines Lab, Dynamics of Machines Lab, Heat Transfer Lab, Control Engineering Lab, CAD-CAM Lab and many more. Various student centred activities including technical seminars, technical workshops, expert talks, industrial visits are organized on regular basis. One of the active student chapters of Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) with more than 40 registered members is working to nurture professional skills of students and faculties. Department also has credit to have M. Tech. in Production Engineering since 2014. Students have opportunities to stretch technical potential by getting exposer to participate in state level, national level and international events under other four leading student chapters of SAE, ASME, ISHRAE and IEI.
Production Engineering is a blend of manufacturing processes, production technology, engineering sciences with management science. A production engineer is an engineer with multi-disciplinary knowledge and skill of engineering practices and is also aware of the management challenges related to production. The main objective of a production engineer is to accomplish the production process in the shortest time, without any complication, without affecting the quality and most economic way.
Production Engineering deals with the application of machining processes, casting processes, joining processes, forming processes, tool design, metrology, machine tools, machining systems, automation, jigs and fixtures, die and mould design, material science and metallurgy, design of machine elements, concept of industrial engineering and advance manufacturing methods, viz. Computer Aided Manufacturing, Computer Aided Quality Control, Additive Manufacturing (3D- Printing). Production Engineering also overlaps substantially with manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering.
