Rural Camp

Rural Camp 2018: In collaboration with DCPU, GOG, Rajpipla, Narmada

A Rural Camp was organised for the 43 students of first year (BSW, MSW, MSW-HRM) from 24th-28th September’ 2018 at Garudeshwar in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Government of Gujarat, Rajpipla, Narmada District. Under the theme of the camp “Kudrat na khole, the students experienced nature and tribal living by visiting different villages, interacting with tribal community, visiting NGOs and Government Departments. They performed various Street Plays, Rallies, Door to Door Visits, Focused Group Discussions (FGD) and other Awareness Generation Programmes (AGP) to fulfil the objectives of the Camp of alleviating the evils of migration and illiteracy among tribal children. The students were given an opportunity to interact with Shri. Kamdar, Chief Judicial Megistrate, Gujarat High Court, Shri. R. S. Ninama, IAS, Collector, Narmada, Mr. Alpesh Barot, Founding Trustee, Loksahyog Trust, Makadamba Village and Mr. Chandan Sinh Vasava, Head, Labour Department. Moreover, they also visited Jilla Seva Sadan and witnessed Juvenile Justice Board. The students had the privilege to be a part of mega health camp which was graced by the presence of Smt. Smriti Irani, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

Rural Camp 2016: In collaboration with Sadguru Foundation, Chosala, Dahod

The Rural Camp was organized for 20 students of MSW & MSW (HRM) based at Chosala campus of Sadguru Foundation for 5 days. Under the guidance of 2 Rural camp coordinators, the students were engaged in Baseline as part of the need assessment survey for Milk cooperative society to be established under Dairy Projects, which was funded by Axis Bank as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Rozam Village. As part of field-visit students had meetings with village leaders, village coordinators to understand the aspects of microfinance and entrepreneurship. The international students were engaged in developing case-studies of the beneficiaries to track down the impact of social work intervention; with guidance and support of rural camp coordinators at Rozam village. The students were engaged in Sanitation Awareness Program under ODF (Open Defecation Free) as part of Flagship Program of the Central Government at Umedpur; in which they delivered health talk to school students, hand washing demonstration along with glow germ kit, orient the audience on the ill-effects of defecating in open, rally to promote sanitation, skit and Resource mapping through PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal). The above mentioned task was done in collaboration with CINI (Collectives for Integrated Livelihoods Initiatives) TATA Mission. Students also developed village profiles of the villages in which they were operating for a comparative study. The students on last day did a presentation on field learning and case-studies developed to the organization.

Rural Camp 2015: In collaboration with GMDC, Panandhro, Kutchh

7 Days Rural camp was organized by Faculty of Social Work for 43 students of MSW and MSW (HRM) in collaboration with Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), at Panandhro village, Kutchh in November 2015. The students conducted baseline survey to study the education level and socio-economic condition of the villagers of Fulra, Khanot and Panandhro villages. They also conducted awareness drive on Health and Personal Hygiene, First- Aid and Literacy through nukkad nataks. Skits and FGDs were conducted on broad topics like Family Planning, Sex Education, reproductive health, Entrepreneurship Development and Benefits of Bio-gas plant. The students also visited Lignite Mines and observed mining activities at Lignite project by GMDC, GMDC office, Thermal Power Plant Rural and attended various expert talks. Camp not only gave students hands on experience on Research methodology but also allowed them to understand the Rural Setting of the different district with cultural diversity and their social issues. They also learnt the process of planning and organizing the Camp and experienced group living. The unveiling of the Rural Camp report unveiling ceremony was held on 7th of December, 2015, which was graced by presence of Mr. Joel Evans, CS- GMDC as Chief Guest. The students were guided by 4 Rural camp Co-ordinators.
