“Donate Organs, Save Lives” was the Anthem at Parul Sevashram Hospital’s Held Rally to Commemorate “Organ Donation Awareness Week”

Continuing its commitment towards contributions to saving lives Parul Sevashram Hospital celebrated organ donation awareness week through an awareness program dedicated towards sensitising people about the importance of donating organs. The rally saw over 500 students and staff of the University taking part in this program and spreading the knowledge of the life saving impact of organ donation. In addition to the rally, an expert talk was also organized where Deshmukh Dada, a prominent social activist addressed the gathering regarding the facts and the current scenario in the field. To provide effective medical insights, the program also featured Dr. Rashesh Desai, a kidney transplant surgeon who shared various insights regarding kidney transplant and the cadaveric transplant. PU’s multispeciality teaching hospital has been making continuous efforts for saving lives through organ donation.

Additionally, as a part of the awareness initiatives, a drama and role play on myths and facts on organ donation was held in nearby villages, gardens and malls as well as poster and slogan competitions on the similar theme. The poster competition at schools on the theme of organ donation was held to educate the next generation about this noble cause. The University went a step further to felicitate the families of organ donors and the lifesaving commitment which their loved ones made. Over the years through these awareness initiatives, the Hospital has seen an increasing number of people who have been coming up to take the organ donation pledge and committing towards this cause. With the ever-progressing technologies, the institution also took a step further towards ensuring organ donation awareness more frequently through its mobile application, which not only shares information and insights, but also features a provision for taking the pledge.

“Organ and tissue donation is more important than many of us realize for society and for the individuals it directly affects. There are many individuals waiting for an organ transplant to live healthier and more productive lives. Organ donation allows recipients to live longer and have a higher quality of life. A transplant may either save or alter a person’s life, awareness on organ donation, is therefore the only way out of this depressing scenario. The more potential donors there are, the more the likelihood of organs becoming available to save lives. Unfortunately, very few people in India have any idea about organ donation, or how they could potentially help after passing. It is the human aspect of donation and transplantation—helping people. It is the right thing to do. Let us vow that no one in India will ever lose their life as a result of a lack of organs”, mentioned Dr. Komal Patel, Vi e President, PU & Medical Director at Parul Sevashram Hospital. She further announced the launch of a special marathon “run for Organ Donation” which is to be scheduled in December 2023. Adding to this, she mentioned about the State of the art Kidney transplant unit at Parul Sevashram Hospital where 5 successful LIVE donor related transplants have been done with the assistance of an expert team of doctors and staff at the hospital.
