Parul University Welcomes Malta’s Former PM Dr. Joseph Muscat for Global Leadership Dialogue and On Youth's Role In Shaping A Resilient Future

In a landmark moment for global academic exchange, Vadodara-based Parul University welcomed the Former Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Joseph Muscat. Dr. Muscat addressed a gathering of young individuals through a stand-alone discussion on the subject of "Global Leadership in a Fragmented World: The Role of Youth in Shaping a Resilient Future." Under the banner of “The Head of the State Series”, this talk session offered students a rare opportunity to directly engage with a statesman whose leadership saw Malta through a period of historic economic growth, social progress, and strategic international positioning.

During his term as the Prime Minister from 2013 to 2020, Dr. Muscat was well known for advocating progressive reforms and economic developments. His perspective as a former journalist and a former member of the European Parliament further enriched his points of view on youth and their position in leadership.

Students, faculty members, and distinguished guests were present during the talk, with the discussion agendas of the modern geopolitical ecosystem and the strategic importance of youth involvement. Dr. Muscat shared his thoughts about addressing a world that is increasingly getting fragmented and how important it can be to build thought leadership.

Dr. Muscat, through his address, gave insights on how young minds can make a difference. He put an emphasis on a resilient and allied world, stating, "I would look at the youth as catalyst. I would not say they need to do something but they should do something for society to help us cope with the change.” The standalone discussion was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, where students asked thoughtful questions, touching on his approach towards leadership and political obstacles. “No manual teaches you to be a good leader or a PM. A good leader should be either loved or feared. You need to say things that can make you uncomfortable, you need to keep your principles and stand up for them”, Dr. Muscat said, and stressed, enduring the vision to lead.

Dr. Devanshu Patel, President of Parul University, expressed his thoughts saying, “It’s not every day that students get to engage in a conversation or listen to someone who has led a country to such growth. Dr. Muscat’s visit is a reflection of our university’s commitment to bring global learning closer. His insights will surely offer our students new perspectives on global diplomacy, leadership, and what governance looks like in an evolving world.”

Beyond the talk, Dr. Muscat’s visit reflects a deeper connection between the two countries, as both nations tremendously focus on educational advancements, innovation, and cultural growth. These exclusive talk sessions are a series of activities undertaken by Parul University to add value to the academic life of its students, through interactions with prominent figures and a platform to exchange dialogues about subjects of global affairs and welcoming global leaders like Dr. Muscat highlights its growing role as a platform for intellectual dialogue and global diplomacy.
