Leadership Based on Honesty: Mr. Prithviraj Chavan's Thought Provoking Session on Ethical Politics

As part of I.I.M.U.N.'s Mumbai Leadership Tour 2.0 powered by Parul University, the students enjoyed the great honor of interacting with one of India's finest political leaders Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, the 17th Chief Minister of Maharashtra and an experienced Indian National Congress member.

With a session on "Ethical Leadership in Politics," Mr. Chavan presented the type of clarity and wisdom that can be formed only by a lifetime of public service and ethical leadership. His firm presence and keen political instincts impressed all students in the room. He didn't demand attention through loudness but through the intensity of his observations and the sincerity of his tone.

One of the most inspiring points made during the session was:

“Public policy is essential for impactful leadership; leaders should actively engage in governance and policy making.”

This observation was not a piece of advice, but an appeal to the future generation. Mr. Chavan asserted that leadership has nothing to do with position, but everything to do with participation particularly in the development of the policies that govern people's lives. He passionately spoke that ethical decision-making and responsible governance are not only good political qualities, but they are the necessary duties.

In a time when political scenes are usually controlled by populism and optics, Mr. Chavan's words were a timely reminder that it is purpose, integrity, and transparency that really underpin leadership. He spoke of the need for leaders to remain grounded in values, to be thoroughly briefed about policy, and to keep public good constantly at the heart of their actions.

The dialogue provided students a rare insight into leadership not influenced by self-interest but by principle, purpose, and people orientation. More than political journey, Mr. Chavan shared his  experience  of governance, offering practical lessons in diplomacy, administration, and ethics.

With this thought provoking session, our students learned that leadership is not charisma but courage, clarity, and conscience.

This event reaffirmed Parul University’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible, ethically grounded future leaders. As Mr. Chavan so powerfully demonstrated, the future of politics lies in the hands of those who lead not just with strategy, but with heart and honesty.
