Individual talent explains why one student gets selected. The institutional ecosystem explains why that student existed in the first place. Pranshu Kumar’s 45 LPA at US based MNC is the outcome. The inputs were the Parul University Training and Placement at Parul University, the BS Data Science programme from IIT Madras, a 40-day DSA boot camp offered through campus, and a schedule that left no Sunday free for three years.
Pranshu Kumar joined the Training and Placement Cell in his second semester after clearing a student coordinator selection process. Speaking to a company on behalf of the cell means speaking as Parul University, not as an individual. It covers personality development, professional communication, and the ability to perform under real-world stakes. It has not happened overnight, it is a story about what happens when the question is not what you expected and the interviewer does not speak your language, literally. From being a nervous fresher to cracking a 45 LPA package, head here to read Pranshu Kumar’s Story
By the third semester, Pranshu was T&P Lead. The scope expanded dramatically and how he smartly mastered everything – at all the levels.
- Managing over 100 student coordinators across simultaneous placement activities
- Coordinating 80 to 90 placement drives over his college career
- Taking direct responsibility for senior manager interactions during every company visit
- Representing the institution at board-level industry meetings
- Helping design the placement process for the entire graduating batch
- Addressing orientation sessions for 3,000 incoming students across five separate sessions
The T&P Cell is where Pranshu’s stage fright died. Not through a workshop or a self-help book, but through repeated, high-stakes exposure. When someone who could barely speak to a stranger speaks to 3,000 students five times, the transformation is structural, not incidental. This is what the T&P Cell does: it converts students into professionals through operational responsibility, not motivational speeches. To instill entrepreneurial spirit in students, Parul University’s PIERC plays a major role in their careers. From generating an idea to making it business-ready, they’ve incubated more than 254+ Startups.
IIT Madras BS Data Science: The Dual Path
The BS in Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras is a rigorous online-plus-examination hybrid programme open to learners of any age or background. It involves weekly assignments, regular proctored exams at designated centres, and mid and end-semester evaluations. Pranshu enrolled on his father’s recommendation while already pursuing B.Tech CSE at Parul University.
The dual-degree commitment was not symbolic. His third-semester schedule: wake at 6:30 AM, college from 7:00 to 14:00, T&P Cell until 17:00, brief break, then split evenings between Parul coursework and IIT Madras assignments until 2:00 AM. Four to five Sundays a month were exam days. Two to three of those Sundays required travel to a physical exam centre. Through-out this, Pranshu maintained approximately 8.5 CGPA.
The IIT Madras programme did not replace the Parul University curriculum; it complemented it. The B.Tech CSE programme provided fundamentals, hands-on projects, campus infrastructure, and the T&P Cell ecosystem. The IIT Madras programme added statistical rigour, data science methodology, and a credential from one of India’s most recognised institutions. Together, they created a profile that a single programme alone could not have built. Smart Interviews: The DSA Accelerator
The technical gap between strong fundamentals and placement-ready DSA performance is real. Pranshu credits the Smart Interviews 40-day DSA programme, offered to a selected group of students through the campus, as the specific preparation that bridged that gap. He passed the screening test, completed the intensive training, and points to it directly as the reason he could clear the first rounds of both Microsoft and US based MNC.
Combined with self-directed preparation through freeCodeCamp, Code With Harry, GitHub open-source contributions, and 396 LeetCode problems, the DSA programme provided the structured, intensive training that complemented his project-based learning.
