About Diploma in Civil Engineering


The Faculty of Engineering Diploma Studies offers a three year diploma program in Civil Engineering, which seeks to impart within the students the knowledge and competencies related to construction and building structures. The significance of construction projects in relation to sustainable development has been on a constant rise, creating a high demand for civil engineering experts. The program provides students with the fundamentals of engineering which will ensure that the students get to effectively navigate the fields and advance in their careers and further studies in the degree programs. The department of Civil Engineering is equipped with a league of expert faculties and resource persons from renowned IITs and NITs, who endeavor to provide the students with a comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of Engineering. The program is AICTE approved thus guaranteeing students one of the most enriching quality learning experiences. As a way of developing the practical skills of the students, the department is also equipped with laboratories and research centres which focus on various domains of Civil Engineering such as Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering and Concrete Technology. Beyond the scope of the academics, the department also seeks to develop the career competencies of the students, making them industry ready, during the course of the academics.

Approach towards Rehabilitation

GTU had organized a one day Technical workshop of Vishwakarma Yojana: Phase-II for central & southern region held at Parul Institute of Engineering & Technology, Limda. 11 Nodal officers from Vadodara, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Valsad, Dang, Panchmahal, Dahod & Anand district as well as 300 Students from respective colleges attended the workshop.

Measurement of Idling Fuel Consumption of Different Types of Vehicles

Workshop on QCAD

Civil Engineering Department, Parul Institute of Engineering and Technology (Diploma Studies-1st Shift) had organized and successfully completed the workshop on QCAD, which was held for Diploma students of the department. A total of 150 students participated in this workshop with full enthusiasm. CAD is a free, open source application for computer aided drafting (CAD) in two dimensions (2D). Students learnt to create technical drawings such as plans for buildings, interiors, mechanical parts or schematics and diagrams using QCAD.

FDP on Revit Architecture

This Faculty Development Program (FDP) was all about the basic learning and practicing of Autodesk Revit Architecture software. A total of 30 Faculties of Autodesk Revit Architecture 2015 of Diploma Studies, Polytechnic and degree engineering participated in FDP.

Expert Lecture on Project Management

Students of 6th Semester, Diploma Civil Engineering attended expert lecture on PROJECT MANAGEMENT for subject CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT by DR. SHAKIL MALEK. The core agenda for lecture was to understand the fundamentals and practical approach. Students learnt the basic aspects of subject.

Expert Lecture on Green Building

Students of 6th Semester, Diploma Civil Engineering attended an expert lecture on GREEN BUILDING for subject Building Services by Mr. Manan Desai, Architect at WAPCOS LIMITED. The core agenda for the lecture was to understand the fundamentals and practical approach of Green building. In addition, coordination of civil work with electrical, Mechanical and plumbing system for Green building was imparted.

Expert Lecture on Waste Water Treatment

An expert talk was organized on waste water management. Mr. Nikhil Jose from Sepra Tech Pvt. Ltd. delivered a lecture on how to manage waste water of different industries. It was an informative lecture and students learnt the practical applicability of subject.

Expert Lecture on Recent Advances in Concrete

Cement Knowledge Centre delivered a session on advances in concrete technology. He described details about various products of the company and taught advanced technology in concrete industry.

Industrial Visit at Darshanam Trade Center

A total of 112 students of 5th semester civil department (diploma studies) visited the site. They gained brief knowledge about detailing of one way slab(main steel, distribution steel, bent up bars, lateral ties, cover, development length), steel for beam (longitudinal reinforcement, stirrups, extra top bars), Slab beam, Inverted slab and beam, Form work for beam and slab, Shear wall. This site visit was full of knowledge and new techniques which were practically observed by the students and faculty members too.

Industrial Visit at Panam Dam

Students of 4th Semester, Diploma Civil Engineering Visited Panam Dam On 19th January, 2018. Students Learnt Detailing Of Panam Dam, Functioning Of Dam Components, Head Regulators Of Main Canal, Hydro Power Generation Plant, Aqueduct, Cross Regulators On Main Canal. Students Cleared Their Concepts regarding the working of Dam & Canal. Site Engineer Mr. Baria explained each component of functioning Of Dam & Canal to Students.

Industrial Visit at Champaner, Pavagadh

Students of 6th Semester, Diploma Civil Engineering visited Champaner, a Heritage site near Pavagadh. Students learnt about different cracks & damage works. They received knowledge about how the maintenance work is carried out for old structure and got their concepts cleared for maintenance of building & heritage site.
