FAQs

Prof. K. N. Madhusoodanan is Parul University's Provost, joining in 2025. Before Parul he spent the decades of his career at Cochin University of Science and Technology, CUSAT, in Kerala specifically in the Department of Instrumentation there as a Professor. Everything academically traces back to Kerala honestly. B.Sc. from Calicut University, then M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics both from CUSAT. He built his whole foundation there, stayed for decades, and then at the same point Vadodara entered the picture.

Short answer: he runs the academic side of everything. 23 faculties, 38 colleges, 200-plus programmes, 3,500-plus faculty, 70,000-plus students. That's the size of what falls under his remit and it's not a small number by anyone's definition. Provost is the top academic office at Parul, sitting above the deans and faculty heads, working directly with them on strategy and direction. President and CEO handle operations and institutional affairs, Prof. Madhusoodanan handles curriculum, research, faculty quality, academic governance. That's roughly how the split works.

Physicist. That's the core of it. His research cuts across physics, instrumentation, allied sciences were published in refereed international journals, book chapters, international conference presentations. He keeps a ResearchGate profile and it actually has real content on it, not just a name sitting there. Life Member of the Acoustical Society of India and the Indian Physics Association, the kind of memberships that reflect long-term active involvement rather than someone who signed up once and forgot about it. He also referees for academic journals and sits on Boards of Studies, Faculty Boards, Academic Councils, Project Review Committees.

DRDO Academic Excellence Award, 2020. Given the source, that one means something. State Biodiversity Award for 2021-2022, slightly unexpected for a physicist but probably reflects work that crossed into applied or environmental territory at some stage. At CUSAT, he was awarded with the Chancellor Award for Best University in the State in 2019 and then again in 2020, back to back, same award, for two consecutive years.

Everything academic, basically. Engineering, medicine, pharmacy, law, management, design, agriculture, applied sciences, all of that spread sits across those 23 faculties and 38 colleges and 200-plus programmes and he's the person responsible for the academic direction running through all of it. Curriculum, faculty development, research governance, quality assurance, his lanes. And the complication nobody really talks about is that keeping academic strategy coherent across disciplines that are different from each other is genuinely hard, what works in a medical college doesn't map cleanly onto an engineering faculty or a law school, so there's no single approach that solves everything. Parul University currently holds NAAC A++ and UGC Category 1 with Graded Autonomy.
