BA LL.B Subjects Explained: What You Study and How It Differs From B.Com LL.B

 Law is not only about reading Acts and sections. The subjects around law also shape how you understand a legal problem.

If you are choosing an Int LLB after Class 12, knowing what you will study can make the decision easier.

BA LL.B combines legal study with arts and social science subjects. The BA LL.B (Hons.) curriculum starts with Sociology, Economics, Political Science, English and Legal Language, while legal subjects are introduced alongside them.

• Constitutional Law: Covers the Constitution, rights and powers of the State.
• Law of Contract: Explains agreements, duties and legal obligations.

This does not mean BA LL.B students cannot work in corporate law or B.Com LL.B students cannot enter litigation. The degree gives you a learning base, but skills and later choices also matter.

A legal problem rarely exists alone. A constitutional issue may also involve government power, public interest and individual rights. Political Science helps you understand the State, while Sociology shows how rules affect society.

Economics becomes useful when law meets markets, policy or public resources. So, the arts subjects in BA LL.B are not simply extra papers. They help students understand the setting in which laws are made and used.

This is one reason BA LL.B program may suit students who find subjects around society, governance, rights, and public issues interesting.

B.Com LL.B may suit you better if the business side of law sounds more interesting.

Your Class 12 stream need not decide this choice. Eligible students from any Class 12 stream may apply for both BA LL.B (Hons.) and B.Com LL.B (Hons.).
