How to Prepare for CAT 2026: Simple MBA Entrance Exam Preparation Guide

CAT preparation may seem difficult at first. There is reading, mathematics, logical thinking and data-based questions to manage. But students do not need to become perfect in every topic on the first day. A regular plan, proper practice and clear understanding of weak areas can make preparation much more manageable.

Before opening books or joining mock tests, understand what the exam tests are.

CAT 2026 has three main sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability.

Knowing the sections helps you make a better timetable. Do not start by solving difficult questions immediately. First, check which areas are comfortable for you and which areas need more time.

Your timetable should be practical. If you are studying in college or working, a plan that needs eight hours every day may not be possible.

• Give Time to All Three Sections: Do not spend the whole week only on the section you like.
• Start With Basic Concepts: Improve basic arithmetic, reading and reasoning before difficult practice.

Read newspapers, business articles, editorials and simple non-fiction regularly. While reading, try to understand the main point of the passage instead of remembering every sentence.

Reading comprehension also needs patience. A common mistake is answering according to personal opinion instead of what the passage actually says. Practise finding the author’s main idea, tone and supporting points.

Keep some time for verbal practice every day. Even 30 to 45 minutes of regular reading can help you become more comfortable with long passages over time.

Many students become worried when they see mathematics. Start with basic areas such as percentages, ratios, averages and arithmetic before moving towards harder problems.

For logical reasoning and data interpretation, practising different types of sets is important. Do not only learn the answer. Understand why one method worked and another method took too much time.

During CAT 2025, candidates had fixed sectional time limits. This makes question selection important because spending too long on one difficult set can reduce the time available for other questions. (Hindustan Times)

• Check Wrong Answers: Find whether the mistake happened because of concept, calculation or hurry.
• Check Questions You Left: Sometimes an easy question may get missed because you selected the wrong questions first.
