How to Prepare for JEE (Engineering)

More than 13.55 lakh candidates registered for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, and 96.26% of them appeared for the exam. This shows how high the competition can be for engineering students. (NTA)

If you are preparing for this entrance exam, you may feel that there is too much to study. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics need time, and Class 12 studies also cannot be ignored.

The best way is to study in a planned manner instead of trying to finish everything quickly.

First, understand the exam before making your timetable. JEE Main Paper 1 is meant for B.E./B.Tech admissions and includes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The 2026 exam was conducted as a computer-based Test. (JEE Main)

Do not prepare only by looking at what another student is doing. Check the official syllabus and divide it into small topics. Mark your strong chapters and weak chapters. This gives you a clear starting point and stops you from studying randomly.

Your plan should be easy enough to follow every day.

• Keep separate time for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
• Revise old topics before starting too many new chapters.
• Solve questions after learning every concept.

After every mock test, spend some time checking wrong answers. Make a small mistake notebook. Write down whether the mistake happened because of a weak concept, calculation error or hurry. This can make your next practice session more useful.

Large candidate numbers can make the entrance exam feel scary. Around 11.23 lakh candidates appeared in JEE Main 2026 Session 2, which was held across about 566 centres in 304 Indian cities and 14 cities outside India. (NTA)

Still, comparing yourself with lakhs of students will not improve your preparation. Your daily target is much smaller.

• Finish the topics planned for that day.
• Take short breaks when concentration goes down.
• Keep enough sleep in your routine.
• Do not change books and study plans every few days.
• Check your progress through weekly tests instead of daily panic.

Students planning their engineering journey can also explore B.Tech programmes at Parul University.
