Dr. Samuel Hahnemann of Germany created the homoeopathic medical system in 1796. It is founded on the idea that “Let the like be treated by like” (Similia Similibus Curenture) holds true. In India, homoeopathy is a growing area of medicine, and millions of people choose homoeopathic drugs as their primary form of treatment. Numerous institutions in India offer quality education in homoeopathy, including bachelor’s, postgraduate, and even doctoral degrees. Presently, more than 50 colleges in Gujarat state offer programmes in homoeopathy. One of the top colleges in the Gujarat state is Jawaharlal Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College, which has gained popularity among students throughout Gujarat state.
The college was founded in 2002. It has been approved by the National Commission for Homoeopathy, New Delhi. It joined Parul University as a constituent institution in the academic year 2015–2016. The college offers a UG programme in homoeopathy (Direct BHMS Course) with a 100-seat intake as well as PG programmes, or M.D. (Hom.), in four disciplines, including the Homoeopathic Materia Medica, the Organon of Medicine, the Repertory, and the Practise of Medicine, each with a 6-seat intake capacity.
The college has a 50-bed homoeopathic hospital that is fully operational and has all the essential services, including radiology, pathology, and all specialty OPDs. The college is overjoyed to report that, as of December 2nd, 2018, their hospital has received accreditation from the “National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH)”. The college and the on-campus Parul Sevashram Hospital have a memorandum of understanding. The 650-bed Parul Sevashram Hospital is fully operational and equipped with all contemporary amenities, including an intensive care unit, 24-hour casualty services, major and minor surgical operating rooms, labour rooms, a pathology lab, a blood bank, a cath lab, a neonatal intensive care unit, a dialysis unit, and MRI and CT scan capabilities. The college and hospital team meet the community’s health needs by regularly hosting homoeopathic camps in outlying areas and by daily transporting a mobile dispensary to nearby communities. Furthermore, the hospital participates in family welfare initiatives, the distribution of COVID-19 immune boosters, universal immunisation campaigns, and pulse polio programs.
To reach the highest professional and ethical standards in the field of homoeopathic education, Jawaharlal Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College has successfully carried out a number of academic and extracurricular activities in a short amount of time. In addition to its academic programmes, the college offers a variety of extracurricular sports, adventure, cultural, and community service opportunities to its students. The College is pleased to have organised 5 homoeopathic seminars at the national level. In addition to these, it is the organiser of HOMOEOFEST, a one-of-a-kind event where faculty and students from all of Gujarat’s homoeopathic colleges come together under one roof to celebrate and recognise the talent and expertise of homoeopaths on the “state of the art” Parul University Campus. Additionally, the college collaborated with the Gujarat State Council of Homoeopathic System of Medicine to conduct the “3rd National Homoeopathic Awareness Summit” in January 2017 and the “National Homoeopathy Summit 2022.”
The institution further enhances student education by providing a variety of learning opportunities, including classroom seminars, workshops, symposiums, webinars, expert lectures, and self-directed learning through its PULMS portal. In an effort to link research with education, Jawaharlal Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
