Program details overview
Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance
Parul University’s Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) in Dance (Kathak) exposes students to the rich heritage of Indian classical dance, while helping them to develop the technique, discipline and artistic expression required for professional performance. The program uses the Kathak tradition of storytelling to explore the relationship between rhythm, movement, music and expression, and gives students an appreciation of dance as an art form and as a means of communication.
Students are taught a complete knowledge of footwork, rhythmic patterns, hand gestures, facial expressions and body movements through practice, theory, choreography and stage performances. The program also allows students to gain an understanding of the cultural and historical significance of Kathak, to develop their own style of art, and to gain confidence to perform in front of an audience.
Here is how you can study this program
Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance
This program is for students who want to spend their days in a dance studio and eventually on a stage. You’ll train in Kathak’s footwork, hand gestures, facial expressions and rhythm, and you’ll learn how to tell a story with all of it together. Alongside the practical work, you’ll study the theory and history behind the form. Most of your learning happens through repetition, feedback from teachers, and performing. That means practice sessions, workshops and stage shows where you get used to having an audience in front of you.

Why study Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) - Dance (Kathak)?
Kathak is one of India’s major classical dance forms. It’s known for fast, intricate footwork, a strong command of rhythm, and storytelling through expression and graceful movement. As an undergraduate student of Kathak you will increase your awareness of this traditional art form and be prepared for the changing opportunities in performance, education and creative production. The program offers students the opportunity to learn technical skills, gain cultural knowledge and explore their artistic side to build a strong foundation for classical dance.
Learn the craft properly
Work on the core of Kathak: footwork, hand gestures, rhythmic patterns, posture and movement, and the way a story is told through them.
Practice and Perform
Regular practice, choreography, solo and group pieces, and cultural events help you build both technique and stage confidence.
Know where the dance comes from
Kathak began with storytellers who traveled between temples and courts, and it picked up Hindu and Mughal influences along the way. You’ll study that history in class, then see it in your practice, where the old compositions and the stories behind them are part of what you learn to perform.
Find your own voice
Experiment with choreography and improvisation, and develop your own interpretation while staying true to the classical foundations.
Look ahead to a career
The training prepares you for performing, choreographing, teaching, cultural programmes and other creative work.
