Two beginners, one workshop
Darshi Jain and Prabhakar Kendre are third-semester computer science and engineering students from Parul University who are certified app developers with Swift. Both had no prior experience in Swift, and they both began their learning journey in the same manner: at an Apple Authorised Training Centre with Prof. Umang Panchal as an Apple Certified Trainer, and the course lasted for three days.
Darshi Jain: Swift and SwiftUI!
The certification allowed Darshi to get involved in programming and Apple’s Swift language. The three-day workshop taught the fundamental concepts of Swift and the SwiftUI framework, followed by approximately a month of preparation prior to the exam. She attributes her guidance to her faculty mentor. It’s easier to learn a new language from scratch, she says, when you get a structured beginning in a workshop, and then have someone to go to for guidance when you’re working on your own. The experience helped to expand a CSE student’s technical knowledge beyond that covered in the classes.
Prabhakar Kendre: an Apple connection at home
Prabhakar hails from Mumbai, and he has a personal interest in Apple’s ecosystem, as his sister is a software engineer at Apple. He had never had any experience with Swift, and this workshop had provided him with a head start.
It was relatively easy to learn, and his preparation went from the basics to creating very basic application pages, like the home page and a second page. The test consisted of reading code to detect errors, multiple-choice questions, and practical code-based questions. He reached out to Prof. Panchal after his afternoon classes whenever he needed help, and he is now planning to take part in the Swift Student Challenge. Learn emerging technologies, gain practical experience, and prepare for a career in software development by doing B.Tech CSE in AI/ML at Parul University.
The shared journeys!
Different as they are, the two accounts share a shape:
- A three-day workshop that starts from zero, so no prior coding is needed
- Faculty mentorship from an Apple Certified Trainer, available beyond the workshop
- About a month of independent preparation on top of the workshop
- A practical next goal, from steady study to the Swift Student Challenge
Both show the same thing from different angles: a beginner with no Swift background can reach an Apple certification when the workshop, the lab, and the mentor are in place.
