Shri Ramjibhai Mavani & Mrs. Ramaben Ramjibhai Mavani Patel at Parul University!
About the speakers!
Shri Ramjibhai Mavani is a former Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) representing Rajkot, Gujarat, and the founder president of the Rajkot Saher Jilla Grahak Suraksha Mandal, a consumer-rights organisation registered with TRAI as a consumer awareness group (also on Facebook). Mrs. Ramaben Ramjibhai Mavani Patel is a lawyer and a former Member of Parliament, elected to the 8th Lok Sabha from Rajkot in 1984. It is rare for two Members of Parliament from one family to share a stage.
Information technology is like oxygen
Shri Ramjibhai Mavani began by saying how completely technology has entered daily life.
Information technology is like oxygen for us today.
People become anxious if the network drops for even a short time, but the majority are not aware of their rights as users, who their guardians are, or where they can take a grievance, he said. It was there that he brought up TRAI as the independent body of the telecom sector, reminded the students that they are consumers and that the consumer-protection law protects them, and reminded them that the cyber-fraud helpline is 1930, open on a 24/7 basis, where they can file complaints either in writing or through voice or digitally. A phone filled with pictures of his family, bank information, and private conversations is as important as anything else he owns, he said, and if a phone gets hacked, it can result in a loss of money, cheating, stress, and harassment, and even worse in the extreme cases.
Success is in skill, not degree.
The other theme of his was skill. The syllabus of the degree is important, but what’s the point of that if it is skills that can make a person’s future, he said, and he said that many graduates are still jobless, and the university is located in a place where skills are developed that are not found in textbooks. He urged students to get to know the concept of cybercrime, malware, and phishing and to listen to the professionals in the room. Mrs. Mavani Patel, then, spoke warmly and briefly, treating the students as her own and wishing them all the best in pursuing their dreams, followed by the technical conversation.
