PID students visited the Applause Entertainment Mumbai office during the design tour in March 2026. They met Sameer Nair, the MD of Applause Entertainment and former CEO of various Indian media networks. The session talked about the uncommon path from pursuing physics to a media journey.

In PID’s tour to Mumbai, students experienced raw and real conversations with the founder of Kapadia Associates, Mr Kiran Kapadia. As a 1980s graduate, he has completed his master’s degree abroad, and he led an exclusive session that amalgamates practical studio operations with practical insights on how design is taught and how Indian cities are planned. He figured out 3 things that every project must establish from the very start – client brief, budget and the site. Why a Building in Alibag Was Designed to Be Taken Apart and Moved: Architecture BRIO Co-founder Robert Verrijt on Climate-Adaptive Design, the Geoffrey Bawa Legacy, the Billion Bricks Shelter Project, and What Design Education Gets Wrong About Individuality
In March 2026, students from the Parul Institute of Design visited Architecture BRIO during the Parul Institute of Design Mumbai Industry Tour to meet co-founder Robert Verrijt. A Dutch architect trained at Delft University of Technology who arrived in India in 1999 for an Ahmedabad school project and settled permanently in Mumbai in 2006, Robert Verrijt founded Architecture BRIO with his partner Shefali Balwani and now leads a fifty-person studio that designs across India’s many climates, collaborates on the Billion Bricks shelter project to address the country’s twenty-million rural-housing need, and was profoundly influenced by the work of the late Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The session covered the 2000 Gujarat earthquake that reshaped his philosophy, the discipline of designing with local materials, the regret of leaving his mentor’s office too early, his critique of design education’s individuality fetish, a demountable studio in Alibag built to migrate as sea levels rise, the Billion Bricks Lego-style concrete-brick shelter with solar-park-on-roof solution, and why hand sketching with pen and paper will remain a permanent human skill.

PID students met Gayatri Khanna, founder & CEO of Milaaya Embroideries, at PID’s industry tour to Mumbai, as organised by IIMUN. Milaaya Embroideries has grown from 30 artists to embroidery unit to a multinational luxury company with operations in New York, Milan, Paris, London and serving the world’s leading fashion houses for couture, ready-to-wear, interior design and art installations. She spoke about how her journey started from scratch and how AI can assist with concept (AI versus human craft) and explained the art of maintaining discipline in translating Indian, French & American luxury aesthetics into hand-crafted products!

Parul Institute of Design’s students met Rochelle Pinto, head of editorial content at Vogue India in Mumbai. Her exclusive session covered how fashion journalism works at all levels; she even spoke about her reading habits, parental influence, vocabulary, ethics, fashion journalism, and emotional resilience, which are required to survive cancel culture and instant feedback. How one can lead a creative team in sync with the Indian Design Imagination and by ending Western validation. She suggested students read core dictionaries and use AI limitlessly, read thoroughly and carve their craft accordingly!
