About Dr. Devashish Palkar

Dr. Devashish Palkar is associated with Vibha Healing Centre, is the founder of Psychi Diaries and is a former Assistant Professor at Sumandeep Vidyapeeth. He led a hands-on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy workshop at Parul University‘s Synapsoirée 2.0.

The Framework of CBT

Dr. Palkar, the founder and a former Assistant Professor, shared that the workshop is based on the ABC framework. He said that this framework is spread across the cognitive approaches. It shows how thoughts, feelings and behaviour can influence one another. It is to change the thought that can change the feeling and the actions. He shared an example of his client. The person named Riya to make the example sound more real, and explained the students the common cognitive distortions. It is the habitual thinking errors such as all-or-nothing thinking. There is catastrophising and mind-reading that keep people stuck. He said the CBT doesn’t ask that can I think positively. Instead, it is about how accurate the thought is. Is it useful, does it separate the method from shallow positivity?

Tools to use the same day

This session was inclined towards the practical side. Dr. Palkar gave a lecture on the thought record. A structured way to catch a distressing thought. He went on to examine the evidence for and against it. He came up with a balanced alternative and introduced a quick technique. It is an in-the-moment aid. Students understood the topics with examples. They practised their examples so they can understand the method rather than just a concept. His point was that CBT is a skill. A skill that anyone can learn with to apply to their own thinking patterns and understand it.  Join the MA in Psychology at Parul University.
