The Origin: Dr Parul Patel, PASM Trust, and the Path to University Status.

April 7, 2026 | Yash Shukla |

The story of Parul University begins not in 2015 but in 1989, when Dr. Parul Patel’s father founded the Parul Arogya Seva Mandal Trust (PASM) with the objective of advancing education, social welfare, and healthcare.

The university and the trust are named after her. Dr. Parul Patel holds an MD in Organon from Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan, and served as Professor at Rajkot Homoeopathic Medical College for eight years before dedicating herself to institution-building.

The first academic institution under the trust, Ahmedabad Homeopathic College, was established in 1993. This was six years before the first engineering or management institute was added and over two decades before university status was granted.

From 2008 onwards, Dr. Devanshu Patel, building on the foundation that Dr. Parul Patel had established, began creating additional institutions: Parul Institute of Management and Research (2008), Parul Institute of Physiotherapy (2009), Parul Institute of Business Administration (2010), Parul Institute of Technology (2010), Parul Institute of Architecture and Research (2012), and Parul Institute of Computer Application (2012).

The trust also established Parul Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, approved by the National Medical Commission with 150 MBBS seats, supported by the 750+ bed Parul Sevashram Hospital (NABH accredited, 1,100+ outpatients daily).

Foundation Day and Vikshit Bharat 2047

Ten years ago, on 7 April 2015, a trust built around Dr. Parul Patel’s vision got the formal acknowledgement. A decade later, from its home in Vadodara, Parul University stands as an institution that challenges and reshapes the way people perceive private universities in Gujarat and across India. The Supreme Court clerkship pipeline in India runs through a handful of institutions, almost by convention.

The startup incubator with Shark Tank deals and Rs 30 crore-plus in revenue from incubated ventures is the part that maps most directly onto what Viksit Bharat 2047 is actually trying to build. India doesn’t need more graduates standing in placement queues. It needs people who create the queues. An incubator that produces ventures generating real revenue, not projected revenue, not seed rounds, actual revenue, is contributing to that in a measurable way.
