About B.Sc. Blood Bank Technology

The Department of Paramedical and Health Sciences offers a 3 year Bachelors Degree program in Blood Bank Technology, which seeks to develop effective human resources with the ability to contribute to this medical field. Blood bank technology is a technical based program which is strategically deigned to impart skills relating to the elements in relations to blood groups and the maintenance and organisation of blood storage. The program offers a highly comprehensive curriculum which does not only develop the theoretical skills of the students but also goes on to enhance their practical skills. The program utilises technical scientific methods for the purpose of blood testing and trains students to assist physicians in the processes of blood transfusion procedures. The syllabus explores the various fields of genetics, immunology, blood group collection, storage and blood transfusion amongst others. As a way of shaping and developing the practical skillsets of the students, the faculty is equipped with state of the art facilities and laboratories which provide the finest exposure to the various areas of blood bank technology. As an added incentive for taking this course, the program also allows the students to practise their learning through the blood bank facility which is provided under the University’s 750 bedded multi-specialty hospital which seeks to train and develop the students’ industrial competencies which are vital towards their employability and service to humanity.
